The FixYaFace Inner Beauty/Outer Wellness Blogazine is excited to welcomes all the dedicated viewers and the new readers that chose this moment to mark us in your precious schedule called life. As we continue to inspire each to spring forward with new ideas and revised approaches that rejuvenate our mind. Ladies and Gentlemen...the body will "spring" into actions composed by the mind. Be enthusiastic about your chosen career's future. Be engulfed in creating a peaceful space at home for yourself. Be electrified by the progress of your pre-spring workout (yaay you!) Be in an appreciative state of mind about your personalized blessings. These events are all YOUR business. Business that you can handle at a fun and doable pace-starting in the mind. When any of these are true for you, the body will be ready to jump for joy, do 100 jumping jacks or at least jump to the conclusion that YOU are unstoppable now. I truly mean it when I say congratulations to you on that:)
Let's continue to respect others opinion and move in the opposite direction of disrespectful situations that have hurt us. Once again, join me in being thankful for the physical abilities and elated by the possibilities of everything else our spiritual side leads us to. A higher power than ourselves is always listening/working, I believe. At some point you have to smile about it! Have fun, have faith and FIX YA FACE!

Exercises Of The Month:1. Drink more water. 2. Get physical-go for a short walk at lunchtime. 3. Create a new salad dressing, invite people over and make it a moment.

As per education-world.com, April is Poetry Month

Learning from your surroundings...Tuesday April 1, 2008

I LOVE, OLIVE, I LEARN

You are courageous, cunning and capable on many levels! I hope that your days here are filled with situations that reiterate those ideas. I look for, need and LOVE those situations:) They balance out the uncontrollable bland moments that sneak upon us to halt the goodness. This April, everyone you meet CAN be an opportunity to learn or exchange working concepts. Your life has valuable properties and you can continue to discover your joy in your journey. As others learn about themselves through their perspectives, it is not for you to change them but for you to choose them as valuable partners in your journey or NOT. Like-minded, positive people will always find each other. And it's always pleasure to see you:)

The New Fruit Of The Month is a picky little thing. Even though you may develop a sweetish salty relationship with this one and crave all of it's oily goodness to the point where you want it on your face (stop the madNESSity..I'm done, lol) . Being love sick for the greenish, brown and/or black specimen, isn't going to help because this one won't be placed near your palate before it is "cured". That's right we are definitely talking about the Olive.

The Olive contains Vitamin E (muscle & bone collagen), Iron (holds calcium & protein in bones), Copper (matures red blood cells) and gives way to anti-inflammatory results (reduce risk of asthma and arthritis). They say if you minus some other fats in your diet then replace them with olive oil, you can significantly lower blood pressure (with help of Oleic Acid, a mono-unsaturated fat) and reduce the risk of heart attack. The oil of the olive is very popular for skin, hair and nail external care. Add a little fat to your fun salad, facial or eating regimen this month.

As per GlobalGourmet.com:
Black Ripe Olives: The olives are processed in a lye curing solution which leaches the bitterness out. California ripe olives have a firm texture and smooth, mellow taste. Once curing is complete a series of cold water rinses removes every trace of curing solution. During the curing process, which takes several days, a flow of air bubbling through the olives produces the natural rich dark color. A trace of organic iron salt (ferrous gluconate) is added to act as a color fixer so the olives will have less tendency to fade after the cans are stored.
  • Kalamatta (or Calamata): Black-purple olive, almond shaped coming from Greece. To process, the olive is slit then brine-cured and packed with vinegar.
  • Gaeta: From Italy, this olive is dry-salt cured, then rubbed with olive oil. It is black and wrinkled, but surprisingly mild. Some styles with this name are brine-cured. They are often packed with rosemary and other herbs.
  • Greek Style Olives: This style is usually made from olives which have been allowed to ripen longer on the tree. They are dry-salt cured and rubbed with olive oil. They are strong tasting, black and wrinkled. Some Greek-style are salt-brine cured and packed with vinegar..

Green Ripe Olives: The process for green ripe olives is the same as black ripe, except that green ripe are not exposed to air (oxidized) during processing. They retain their green color. The small quantity packed are available whole or pitted
  • Sicilian Style Olives: A medium green color, they are cured in a salt brine and preserved with lactic acid. Made from the larger Sevillano variety, they are crisp and salty.

Spanish Style Green Olives: They are fermented for 4-6 months in an acid solution and packed in an 8% salt brine to give them a distinctive salty flavor. They are not pressure cooked, but keep for a long time when cold packed in jars with their acidified brine. This style of olive is imported primarily from Spain and are readily available in the grocery store.
  • Nicoise: This brown to brown-green-black olive comes from France. It is a small, tasty olive with a large pit.

Crispy Zucchini Sticks with Olive Dip (as per Chef
Sara Moulton, on Sara's Secrets --FoodTv.com)

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup beer, plus more as needed for thinning
1 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup chopped pitted kalamata olives
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
2 medium zucchini, about 1 pound, washed
Vegetable oil, for frying
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
Whisk 1 cup of the flour with the beer in a large bowl until smooth. Pour through a strainer into another bowl and let stand for 1 hour. Thin with additional beer just before frying, if necessary. It should be the consistency of pancake batter.
Meanwhile, mix the mayonnaise with the olives and lemon juice in a small bowl. Thin with 1 to 2 tablespoons water, if you like. Keep covered in the refrigerator until ready to serve the zucchini. Makes about 1 1 4/ cup.
Cut the zucchini into sticks that measure 3/4-inch wide and 4 inches long. Heat 3 to 4 inches of oil in a large deep saucepan until a deep-fat frying thermometer reaches 360 degrees F. Combine the remaining 1/2 cup flour with salt and pepper in a shallow bowl or pie plate. Add the zucchini and toss to cover in flour. Transfer to a sieve and shake to remove excess flour. Working in batches, dip in the batter, letting the excess drip off. Fry until golden brown and crisp, about 3 minutes. Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with salt. Serve the olive mayonnaise on the side for dipping.

A Beautiful Mind welcomes
ABIOLA ABRAMS (Guyana/NY)

The back cover of Dare by Abiola Abrams says: Provocative. Empowering. Outrageous. Fearless. There are many ways to describe Abiola Abrams, the TV host, feminist filmmaker and creator of The Goddess Factory--- she’s a dash of Oprah Winfrey, a sprinkling of Martha Stewart, plus a healthy dose of Candace Bushnell. What would be the result if she poured her life changing energy into a novel? Dig in and find out how far she goes in a phenomenally fun and entertaining urban fiction debut…

1. What keeps you feeling beautiful and energetic? If there's a song that reflects your vibe, what would that song be?
I love basking in the energy of other positive people, and sharing my energy as well. One of the exciting things that I do is motivational workshops for women. We eat love cakes and I lead them through affirmations and personal empowerment exercises. I consider this a part of my own personal service, something that I do because I love helping others to learn some of the things that I have learned—about inner beauty and personal strength. My debut novel Dare, published by Simon and Schuster asks what would you Dare to do if you knew you could not fail? AND the song that expresses me is Nina Simone's Here Comes the Sun!

2. Tell us about your debut novel, DARE.
Dare is a fun, high energy adventure mixed with poetry and affirmations and music. The story is about Maya, a sociologist who becomes a rapper, and her best friend Athena who is just a walking scandal. Maya thinks that her objective is finding true love. She realizes that her true mission is to find herself. I created an interactive website at www.daretogetalife.com . A lot of book clubs are reading it, so its been nice to touch base with them, and answer their questions. They have been contacting me through myspace.com/goddessfactory or my blog. My live appearances are also a great deal of fun. You can find me at Wal-Mart, Barnes and Noble, Borders—it’s a good time.

3. Your successful experiences include, being the Consulting Producer & Host Of BET's Best Shorts on Channel BET-J, allows you to connect with people across the world, what are some of your day to day activities?
I am also now hosting a daily online show called Planet Abiola with Patrick Reis and Krist Mosley that will premiere soon at www.planetabiola.com. It’s awesome—we’ve been interviewing everyone from Fat Joe to the new queen of Bad Boy Cheri Dennis. I also have a new advice column coming up and I am working on my second book. Every day I guess that I tell stories and truth. Either to a camera or a page.

4. What do you do for fun? What new fun thing would you like to try?
I love hanging with my girls! I have the best crew of goddesses in the world. So we can be in a club or wherever, but girls night out is where it’s at. I also love traveling, so it would be fun to backpack across Europe. Hmmm. Maybe we can backpack during the day and still stay at the Ritz Carlton at night! The goddess needs her comfort!!! (giggles)

5. Give us 1 thing that you are grateful for and what was the obstacle that you overcame to get to this grateful experience?
I am so grateful to have published Dare my debut novel and the response has been overwhelming. Not only are women loving it, but men are too. That was really unexpected. As with anything, the biggest obstacle is always ourselves. When we realize that the universe is always dreaming bigger dreams for us, all that is left is that we let go of our fears and jump into the beauty of life.

6. What/Who keeps you grounded in an ever changing world?
My family keeps me grounded. I have the most amazing parents in the world. It also helps that my mom and my sister won’t hesitate to call and say—I just saw you interviewing that guy from the Tyler Perry movie. Why didn’t you have on earrings? Or that color was bad on you! They are like goddess smoddess!

7. Fresh Juice or Green Tea? Chocolates or Love Letters? High heel or Low Heel?
Marcella, Marcella, Marcella—why choose, sis? ;-) Life is about living the most full, lush experience possible. Oh—preferences? OK—My day does not begin without my green tea. Also I am a definite chocoholic and my entire life is a love letter to my parents and my creator! And dah-ling, unless one is 6 years old, high heels are the only way to go!!!

8. Who gave you 1 really good piece of advice and what was it?
The best advice I have ever received was more of a mantra than advice. Every morning when my mother woke me up she said, “rise and shine!” And I took those words literally, love! That’s what life is about, rising and shining!

9. What piece of business advice would you like to share?
Girrrrrrl, as I learned recently, a verbal contract is as good as the paper it’s written on!

10. Put ALL 3 in order of preference. Any why that order? Great Night Sleep, Great Food, A Great Pair Of Shoes.
It’s my prerogative to change my mind, so the answers I give you right now may be totally different in 5 minutes! I say a ga-ga pair of shoes—YSL if possible—great food, then a really yummy night of sleep. As I said, I may have a different answer tomorrow. Especially because my schedule is so crazy. You know what? Never mind everything else! I will take the sleep!!

11. What are 2 qualities do you prefer in a mate at this time in your life?
My perfect mate is trustworthy and intelligent. I also wanna throw in that it doesn’t hurt if he’s also been beaten by the handsome stick and is generous of heart and soul.

12. What word would best describe you right now?
Free!
Life is party and I am loving it!

Dare by Abiola Abrams is available at Amazon.com, Borders, Barnes and Noble or wherever paperbacks are sold. For more advice, film and video clips, and blogs please visit her interactive site www.abiolaabrams.com or myspace.com/goddessfactor

A Beautiful Mind welcomes
CANDACE JONES (CA/NY)

1. What keeps you feeling beautiful and energetic? If there's a song that reflects your vibe, what would that song be?

My work , family, friends and interests keep me feeling energized and more alive every day. My theme song right now, " I'm feeling Good" Nina Simone that's what my mood is about right now.

2. Your successful experiences as a Classically Training Singer that mastered playing the Violin cello since an early age and your unique jazz styling infused in Hip Hop/R&B has connected with people across the globe. You are the sultry voice of the infamous official remix to Def Jam Records Artist NEYO's "Sexy Love" and now signed to Pologround/J Records.
What are some of your day to day activities?

I've never heard so much about my self in a question... Sweet!! Well I'm in the process of recording my debut album, the one that takes your whole life to make:) so my creative days range from being in the studio with fabulous producers like Bryan Michael Cox, Raphael Saadiq, The architects, Beat Bangas Lady and a Tramp girl the list goes on. This process for me has been about inching closer and closer to my truest self in my music so I can give my best to the world. When I'm not in the studio I'm working on my brand new foundation, The Go Candy Foundation, our mission is about the upliftment and empowerment of young girls and that project is as near and dear to my heart as my music. We're actually doing Aids Walk on may 18th if anyone wants to join TEAM CANDY!! I have so many interests that I dabble in daily, art, fashion, my friends and family and I also happen to be a little scatter brained/ short attention spanned...lol so my daily life involves most if not allll of these things.

3. Tell us about THE GO CANDY FOUNDATION.

Ooooo yes!! The GCF is brand new (sounds like a government agency when you write it like that :) and our wish and mission is to uplift, empower, and connect young girls. My own story is one of struggle and resilience and in my experience resilience is key to life!! Its not what you go through but how you come out of it. So for myself as a young woman, my friends, family, and mentors I feel it necessary for us to use our words to uplift, our experience to empower and our resources to connect the young girls we influence. Give these girls a voice, a platform, a network of positive friendships, a place to go for good advice and information. So with the foundation we hope to create a GCF network, a community based website where member girls can go to connect on message boards and virtual chat rooms. We will invite live guest advisors to talk to the girls and offer feedback, to help broaden their horizon of experience. Annually the GCF will put on a "Girls Day" where we will invite a group of girls to have small focus groups with guest speakers, enjoy live music and health counseling. The GCF is really my heart and I'm thrilled to have a voice that may be used to help another girl like me.

4. What do you do for fun? What new fun thing would you like to try?

Girl... SLEEP!!lol
I'm kind of a home body actually, I love to be at home with friends or at family's house kickin back. Some music, a glass of wine love me some r&r. I'd love to sky dive one day... I wanna fly!!

5. Give us 1 thing that is on your "Life List" (something you'd still like to accomplish).

Release this album that's taken me the past 20yrs to make!!! :) I feel like I'm so close, its a really exiting moment in my life right now.

6. What/Who keeps you grounded in an ever changing world?

Reading, music, nature, learning, my little brothers and sister my cousins and family... All the constants u know?

7. Fresh Juice or Green Tea? Chocolates or Love Letters? High heel or Low Heel?

Fresh juice!! Mmmmmmm Chocolate... 4plus inch high heels...

8. Who gave you 1 really good piece of advice and what was it?

My dad told me recently that when I get to be successful to leave some things on the table. Take some and leave some. Its about what you say no to.

9. What piece of business advice would you like to share?

Stick it out, when your on the verge of giving up chances are your blessing is right around the corner.

10. Put all 3 in order of preference. And why that order? Good Night Sleep, Good Food, A Good Pair Of Shoes

Girl you can wear a great pair of shoes while you're up all night eating... So definitely 1. Shoes... 2. Food...3 Sleep... Sleep is a luxury...lol

11. What are 2 qualities do you prefer in a mate at this time in your life?
R-E-S-P-E-C-T!!! I didn't even know what it meant to me til recently... And a little bit of tenderness. I love a strong man but there's nothing wrong with a strong man who know how to take careful care of a woman too ;-)

12. What word would best describe you right now?
Driven... I just feel like I'm on a mission right now!!

A Beautiful Mind welcomes
PAMELA NEWMAN (CA)

1. What keeps you feeling beautiful? If there's a song that reflects your vibe, what would that song be?

Connecting with Nature and friends, feeling loved (and of course the right hair color!) Lately I appreciate Alicia Keys- "Everything is going to be Alright"

2. Tell us about CABANAKITTEN.COM

10 years ago, I went for what I thought was a 3 month journey to Africa, and it turned into 3 years around the world (Asia, Australia, New Zealand, the South Pacific, South America). At the time I began importing / exporting small things, and LOVED sending new things back to the USA... When I got home, life took me into a different path where I spent 7 years in Real Estate....Then, on vacation with my boyfriend, I saw these beautiful sarongs, hand decorated with mirrors, seashells, and embroidery... I knew I would go back to my roots and begin my own business.... Now in my 3rd year, I import from India, Venezuela and Thailand. I wholesale to resorts and swim shops, cruise ships and I even export to Australia...

3. What inspired you to create your other company, CHOCOLATEABUNDANCE.COM ? Tell us about the products and benefits.

As my Cabana Kitten clothing line is only summer things, my season ends. So last winter a friend who knows that I am a "choco-holic" called me with the Healthy Chocolate called XOCAI (sho-sigh).The benefits of raw chocolate are all over the news right now, but most people run out and eat a candy bar. Mine is different, it is the only one that is Unprocessed Cacao sweetened with Acai and Blueberries, not sugar. All other chocolates are made with a heat process, which bakes out the nutrients and they add back caffeine, fat, sugar, wax, etc...The process makes all of the difference, compare a healthy apple to an unhealthy apple pie... One is a Whole Food. The beginning of all diseases is Oxidation (like the browning of a banana that is left out) this happens inside our bodies with bad food, bad water, bad air, etc... The best prevention is Anti-Oxidants. And Raw Chocolate has the highest anti-oxidants than any other food. I have lost 15 pounds, my back pain has gone and I sleep way deeper, I have more energy and I have a more easy going attitude..I give lectures at retirement homes, natural birthing centers, diabetes classes, cardiologists and arthritis doctors love me! I make lots of friends with just throwing Chocolate Tasting parties... Let me know if you want to throw one too!

4. With your successful experiences allowing you to connect with people around the globe, what are some of your day to day activities?

I work from home, so some days are all about getting files and emails organized, calling overseas, setting appointments with resorts and delivering shipments. But I start every day with a walk in the hills behind my condo with my dog... And I enjoy the benefit of stopping work whatever time my boyfriend gets home from his job. Don't let me fool you though, sometimes I do laundry and grocery shop when I am suppose to be working! Don't tell on me though;)

5. What are you most proud of that you've done?

I am most proud of my travels, I went alone and learned about myself, my soul, my hopes and dreams. I was able to bring a whole person into the relationship of my dreams...My high school sweetheart, Dan, and I had spent 16 years apart, but met up again 5 years ago... And without his support (Both emotionally and financially ) and his belief in me, I wouldn't have been able to go after my dreams of my own businesses.

6. What do you do for fun? What new fun thing would you like to try?

For fun, we rent movies, take our dog , Baxter- a 2 year old yellow lab- to the beach, we go to concerts, have dinner with friends.. We also think it is important to always have something fun to look forward to in a relationship, otherwise it can be all about bills and chores ! We do little things like day trips to the snow, we just went to a Cirque du Soleil performance, We always plan a big vacation somewhere exotic each year, whether we can truly afford it or not!... When we arrive, we eat rice only to keep it cheaper, and hitchhike around the country with no agenda for a few weeks. This year we are hoping to go to Laos and Cambodia in April. I have recently begun to take Belly Dance lessons, through my MySpace friend Sohaila International... So I have just started and already feel stronger and loving the cultural music to remind me of life outside myself and my own worries...

7. Give us 1 thing that is on your "Life List" (something you'd still like to accomplish)?

The main thing on this Life List is to have a baby with Dan... While my life reads like an adventure novel, my original goal for starting to work from home was so I could begin a family and be a stay at home Mom. It has been a dream of mine that has remained out of reach.. .We have been trying for 3 years now to no avail... YET! So to all of you stay at home moms out there wishing you could travel, just know in your hearts that a family is what really matters to everyone I have met in every culture... It seems so simple to achieve, yet for some reason that we are praying about, it is just around the corner for us in 2008... So send me your prayers!

8. What/Who keeps your grounded in this ever changing world?

Dan is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me. To have dated 22 years ago is really special to me. My 20 year high school reunion is coming up, and we share the same friends, so I am excited to go and see everyone again... Dan is a good man, he drives a 4 hour daily commute to Los Angeles from San Diego...He comes home with a smile n his face and tells me a new joke every day... He makes me a nicer person (No honey, I'll do the dishes! you drove all day!)

9 . What are 2 qualities that you prefer in a mate at this point in your life?

After so much self -imposed changes, STABILITY is the number one thing I rejoice in now...I feel so blessed, I think I can only hope for more $$$ to continue the lifestyle we have been leading, and to support a new baby, Dan will make a beautiful father.. You should see him with just our dog!

10. Who gave you 1 really good piece of advice and what was it?

My Grandfather, who is British, but lived in Egypt and cleared hippos off of the Nile so the water planes could land in the 1940's (I know, he is where I get it from!!!) He once told me not to pay people for what I want to do in life, someone will pay me...And I have taken it to heart... Some of my jobs around the world included teaching snorkelling lessons along the Great Barrier Reef and public relations for a radio station...allowing me to snorkel and go to events!
I worked in Real Estate when I wanted to buy my first home, and even bought a rental at huge discounts... Now I get to travel back to India and meet with resort managers around California, Arizona and Florida... all while learning about tax write -offs. Definitely valuable advice.

11. What piece of business advice would you like to share?

That there are so many people just like myself that have learned the loopholes in how do start a business.... Just begin and see what happens! I got a FREE website from Ebay, I searched for Affordable Web Hosting, found the layout of one that had been used in the past, deleted their words and pictures and added mine in, VIOLA, my own website... There are retired executives in every city called S.C.O.R.E., who will guide you in how they would run your business and how to get to the next step. There is something in every city called Team Women (.com) that is a women's networking group you can meet with each month and share ideas and clients ....Newspaper Press Releases are FREE! Take advantage...There are so many extra benefits just because you are a woman, if you are an ethnic minority or have children, even more benefits out there... I recently read about all of the people who came running to California in the 1800's for the goldrush, hoping to make millions panning for gold in the rivers... Most did not, but that is how Levi's jeans began, he saw a "side door" benefit to everyone else acting crazy.. .So he knew that if he paired up with the guy selling the pans they would both do well... smart man...

12. Fresh Juice, Iced Latte or Sparkling Apple Cider? Chocolate Cake, Cheesecake or Crumbcake?

Sparkling Apple Cider! And Cheesecake... Yummy!

13. What word would best describe you right now?

Thankful!

One of her degrees is in Sociology and her occupation causes her to see some effects of how social interaction relates to life outlooks in adults. She believes that if you have the time and/or desire to mentor....your presence, knowledge and ability to relate may be the boost that a younger person needs to be inspired towards their own possibilities. Here's to staying helpful and hopeful for the future.

1. What brought You to Mentor USA? I signed up for Mentoring USA has part of my new year's resolutions to do something good for others. I found out about the organization though the nyc.gov website. I wanted to start out the year helping others.

HONORS:
THE BODY SHOP

As per "Activate Self Esteem"

Donate a phone, save a life
"Beginning in March, The Body Shop called for Americans to voice their concern about the shocking extent of domestic violence by recycling their old cell phones and our loyal customers responded. A record 115,000 cell phones have been collected from coast to coast, raising much needed funds to help victims. The donated phones will be sold, refurbished, or recycled, with proceeds benefiting the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) and the Wireless Foundation. Additionally, a number of phones will be distributed to approximately 200 women's shelters for dissemination to at-risk women who need access to a personal safety system when domestic violence strikes."
