Hi there Ladies and Gentlemen. The FixYaFace Inner Beauty/Outer Wellness Blogazine is happy to see our return viewers and completely elated that new readers have chosen this space for a positive energy boost, as worth your precious time. I say thank you and I say remember to "think you". You are the beginning of all things wonderful. You've had the gifts since day one. You have been born with unique ways to find your joy. Just by cherishing your gifts/abilities/talents/purposes and loves-- you can go on to make a difference--in YOUR life. That difference can be (if not already) prevalent in all areas! Areas that extend your gift to the next man as well:) A higher power gifted you. Show this power what you can do with it. Respect the gifts. Think before you speak. Speak in terms of solutions. Get focused on the good of yourself and good people you talk to. Unwrap your potential to new heights. Get that new business account, new baby crib, new hairdo, new condo or new food processor!

Congratulations on making it this far and all you are about to do. Your gift is to be shared so pass it on and show another person that they too are gifted beyond compare. Your joy is not seasonal. It's reasonable.
YAAY YOU! Keep giving yourself the reasons to grow in this lifetime. Cherish the love that comes at you, gift someone with your love (or atleast a kind word) and smile inside about it. Refuse and diffuse the old hurt. For that is how you have fun! Have faith! And FIX YA FACE! Have a wonderful December and happy holidays. I'll see you the precious new year.

Monday December 1, 2008

The New Fruit Of The Month is the apricot. The apricot contains, but not limited to, Iron Vitamin C (aims to pause wheezing, promotes better respiratory and kidney health), good source of beta-carotene and Vitamin A ( maintain eyesight health). YOU should take inventory of your unique dietary needs to enhance your healthy methods of maintaining that enjoyable life of yours. Small additions can help to subtract the bigger worries.

I eat dried apricots as a snack or with almonds.

Slicey Dicey Fruit Salad:

I sliced dried apricots. Mixed it with canned peach slices and red delicious appple slices. Stir in 2 teaspoons of pineapple juice. Chill to my preference and enjoyed it.

1. What keeps you feeling beautiful? If there's a song that reflects your vibe, what would that song be? What is the color of clothing that you would most likely wear to feel wonderful this season?
Nothing keeps me feeling beautiful like a deep, hearty laugh. Laughter not only makes me feel beautiful, it makes me feel connected to everything else in the world that is beautiful as well as invincible to anything negative. My favorite dress this season is orange.I'm talking Avenue Q orange, LOL! It flatters my figure and shows off my tan. Plus, orange is the color of the sacral chakra which influences creativity and sexuality. When the sacral chakra is balanced, one is in touch with one's personal power which facilitates quick recovery from disappointments. My industry is rife with fits and starts as it is, and they've been further exacerbated by this difficult economy so orange keeps me persevering and optimistic. It is difficult to choose just one song to describe my vibe at any given time. Music evolves, and so do I. J
2. Tell us about Sister Outsider Entertainment, LLC. Under the name,Black Artemis, you penned the novels "EXPLICIT CONTENT" and"PICTURE ME ROLLIN". Tell us about your novel BURN.
Sister Outsider is the multi-media production company I co-founded with Elisha Miranda (who wrote The Sista Hood under the pen name E-Fierce.) We're on a mission to create quality, conscientious entertainment for multicultural audiences. For example, we just finished producing our first off-Broadway show Pandora'swhich combined ten monologues and seven films to reveal the complexity of the Latina LGBTQI experience. Sister Outsider is also in pre-production with Sangria Street, our internet series which has been described as a Latina Sex in the City.
As Black Artemis I write feminist hip hop noir. Or you can say that I write novels for women who live hip hop even when hip hop fails to love them in return. In a Black Artemis novel, you always get three things - a complex female protagonist, a crime story and an element of hip hop culture. My latest novel Burn is about a female bail bond agent who is searching for a missing graffiti artist and uncovers a deadly health care scam. Now I'm collaborating with artist Urban Envy on a graphic novel series called The Miniskirt Mafia. It's very exciting because there are so few women in that scene never mind women of color and/or our sisters representing hip hop.

3. With your successful experiences ranging
allowing you to connect with people around the globe, what are some of your day to day activities?
Being a working artist requires one to also be a business person so when I'm not writing, I'm helping to build Sister Outsider. That can involve anything from meeting with industry executives to completing a host of administrative tasks that are not particularly interesting but necessary. I'm also an activist and still sit on the board of Chica Luna Productions, the nonprofit I co-founded. Improving and expanding the programming that we have there as well as fundraising for them takes considerable time, but, that, too, is necessary. Building an infrastructure for change is as important - even more powerful - than anything I can do as an individual artist. That's precisely why we need social justice nonprofits such as Chica Luna and socially conscious businesses like Sister Outsider.

4. What do you do for fun? What new fun thing would you like to try?

At the top of the list is spending quality time with my family and friends. A good time for me is breaking bread and having great conversations with the people that matter most to me. Other than that, I'm quite the dilettante who's always trying my hand at something new. I've come to embrace that about myself and revel in it. Last summer I took a class at the Scratch DJ Academy. This summer I've taken up birdwatching - you'd be surprise at some of the beauties you'll meet at the Bronx Botanical Garden! I mean, I love to read books and watch movies, but that's too closely related to work so I nudge myself to get out of my head and spend more time in my body and spirit.
5. One thing on my Life List is to find my soul mate.
6. What/Who keeps your grounded in this ever changing world? What does the next 12 months hold for Sofia Quintero?

My family - both the one I was born into and the one I have created among a handful of close friends - keeps me grounded. Outside of them, I definitely feel blessed to have a genuine community of like-minded spirits both within my industries (which is particularly hard to find) and without. I'm still on a quest of developing a personal spiritual praxis so one thing I hope to accomplish in the next twelve months is the creating my own sacred text. As for the creative projects, in addition to some of the other things I already mentioned, I'm working on my first young adult novel called Efrain's Secret
which will be published by Knopf in 2009.

7. What are 2 qualities that you prefer in a mate at this point in your life?

Honesty is incredibly important to me, starting with self-awareness. I also need someone whose sense of himself as a man is progressive and self-defined i.e. not dependent on patriarchal ideas of masculinity. In many ways, I'm not a traditional or "typical" woman, so I'm holding out for an extraordinary guy.

8. Who gave you 1 really good piece of advice and what was it?

During a particularly trying situation, our mentor Lillian Jimenez once told Elisha and me, "Learn the lesson while the stakes are low." There was the obvious message about being mindful of what we were learning at that time and remembering to apply applying it to any future, similar scenarios. However, there was another, subtle gift which was the gift of perspective. The situation - as painful as it was in the moment - truly was nowhere near as bad as it could've been. In a way, the fact that we were in it was a reflection of fortune that had come our way. And it was evident that not only would we get through it, we'd be better for having experienced it for when the bigger blessings - and the challenges that tend to accompany them - to come.

9. What piece of business advice would you like to share?
Some people say never do business with friends or family. I say it's rare but possible. When Elisha and I became friends in1999, we had grown so close so quickly then when we decided to work together,we had an honest and transparent conversation about our ambitions and boundaries and how that might translate in our expectations of each other.Ultimately, we agreed that if the project threatened our friendship, we would let it go because we both believe that if one is truly secure in one's skills and talents, there will always be another project. That said, before embarking on any major joint ventures with individuals or organizations that seem to share a mission, start with a smaller project to see if you truly do possess the compatible values, ethics, practices, etc. Maybe it will turn out that you weren't meant to do business together, but if everyone involved truly values the preexisting relationship in the first place, a "failed" collaboration might actually result in a deeper friendship!

10. Put in order of favorite: Good Food, Good Shoe AND Good Night Sleep?
Good food, goodnight sleep, good shoe. Occasionally, good night sleep before good food, but good shoe always last.

Pant Suit, Blue Jeans, Mini Skirt OR Long Dress? Blue jeans, but mini skirt is a close second. High Heel,Low Heel OR No Heel? Low heel, all day, every day.

11. What word would best describe you right now? Optimistic

A Beautiful Mind welcomes

1. If there's a song that reflects your vibe, what would that song be? Sure, the song These Words by Natasha Bedingfield totally. Why? It just makes sense. It is so real. These words are my own, from my heart it!

Is there a color that you like to wear this season that induces vibrant thoughts?
Not sure but I would say--Purple or Eggplant I love it! Hated it growing up but would love to wear more of it to get away from deep red which I used to wear constantly! Both colors show strength and vibrancy though.

Do you meditate, pray or/and take time to mentally relax? Pray?
Are you kidding ? OF COURSE! I mean I think I should pray LOTS more than I do but a relationship with a higher being just like with a human being needs to be cultivated. I should pray more for sure. I pray every few days, It should be daily. It was daily when I was growing up because that us how I was raised.

2. Tell us about Well The Quest for "it" is my greatest accomplishment and brings me the most joy. I always say I am going to end my lil blog and I never do. It covers art, fashion & media in New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Miami & London.
It was started expressly so that I could apply for press credentials for fashion week in September of 2005. I was already going to shows anyway but wanted to officially do it. I then registered in February 2006 and began blogging the shows, as a result I was one of the first bloggers ever to officially over Fashion Week in New York City. There were only 2 others at the time that did the same ( & Glam media). Not even the big fashion mags had started blogs or blog coverage yet. I was very lucky-- timing is everything. Now I am viewed as a trusted reliable outlet offering accurate, well versed reporting with journalistic integrity. I can get into almost anything I ever hoped to cover in virtually any genre, people pay me to blog for them based on this fact, THAT is a blessing.
3. What is your favorite era (decade) of Fashion?
The 70's! Pretty much the late 70's. I am a weirdo there are probably much better periods I am sure but the easy flowing boat neck, cowl necks, off the shoulder tops, wrap dresses are cool. The gauchos, wide legged pants and highly texturized fabrics are cool. My mom used to sew a LOT in the 70's and I like that fact that clothing was simple and uncomplicated enough to be duplicated and not simply "purchased". I adore 70's Halston, Diane Von Furstenberg etc...especially the vacation French Riviera resort type clothing!
4. What part of your life's journey lead you on your educational path?
I was not even planning to go to college. I was FORCED. I was doing a little modeling and thought I could do a LOT of modeling. It never happened quite like that so I am glad that I went to college. I am especially glad that I majored in History & minored in Art History. My original major was Communications but I ended up switching and I am glad that I did! I am more well rounded. I can speak on art and understand art in away that I would not have been able to otherwise.

5. With your other successful experiences (such as being a TV Host) allowing you to connect with people across the globe, what are some of your day to day activities? What EXCITES you about any ONE of your day to day activities?
I am a professional blogger so I connect with people over the internet which of course is world wide It is exciting for sure. I get most excited when I do a really good post, as strong one , one that I feel a LOT of people will relate to--not just one specific group. Breaking news ones are always interesting!

6. What do you do for fun? What new fun thing would you like to try?
Well I like to do adventurous things for fun. I would like to go white water rafting or something to do with the water.

7. One thing on my Life List is that I'd love to do the red carpet at the Oscars, I love to go to Hawaii with someone really cool and deserving that's (2) things sorry.

8. What/Who keeps your grounded in this ever changing world?
My mother, she always pounds me back to reality with the sentiment..."well how are you going to do that?"

9. What are 2 qualities that you prefer and respect about your mate at this point in your life?
I do not have a mate currently but I would say intelligence and honesty. Without those (2) things you have very little. Intelligence will lead a man to the proper decisions I would hope and honesty will keep him grounded, but really I require honesty to me directly to me if no one else--SECRETS kill a relationship.

10. Who gave you 1 really good piece of advice early on and what was it?
I am not sure I have ever been given any advice out right. I guess that success isn't overnight. That would be the case for me I have been at this all in some form, for years. Where's my emmy damn it! No seriously not TV, but just at being who I am, being known, known for good work, people looking up to you or wanting to know how you do things, that takes time. Patience is everything-- I struggle with it every day. I am a "give it to me now" type of chick.

11. What piece of business advice would you like to share?
Never underestimate ANYONE. I think some of the biggest faux pas' people make is writing other people off. Think that perhaps they are insignificant when they a person or group may be insignificant one day & on top the NEXT. So I believe in no bridge burning but in diplomacy . Although sometimes people really can be insignificant it is our job to be gracious to them.

12. Brownstone, Town House OR Condominium?
Town House definitely and Brownstone they are not all that unrelated. I like the homeiness the feeling of space the possibility of high-ceilings, even a backyard.
Condominium implies High -rise and well I am not a high-rise kind of chick, they are great for parties like a visit to other people's homes but I find them to be real death traps--sorry! I mean how does one really ever expect to get out of a condominium in an EMERGENCY? no thanks, I do not care how opulent!

Put In order of importance: Great Food- Great Sleep-Great Mate. And why did you chose your 1st choice?
Great Mate, Great Sleep, Great Food. OK normally I would go for the food first because I am a total foodie. However at this point in life what is good food if you have no mate? So a great mate is first. As I have had trouble sleeping for about 7 years now, don't ask, great sleep is imperative it helps one to think straight and perform at your best levels

13. What word would best describe you right now? Restless. I am truly a restless spirit. Can't Stop, won't stop...WAIT isn't that Diddy?

Green Apple Nutrient Eye Cream

A great addition to my day/night regimen. With a wonderful medley of carrot, avocado, cucumber, apple and aloe feeding the most delicate area of my face, I was delighted by how well it sustains a great lift and brightness.

Organic Facial Moisture Concentrate

My favorite product of the bunch! I love the scent and the combination of using it with the eye cream. It was more than what I ever expected it to be. The grapeseed and cranberry ingredients really came together to form something worthy of day and night application for me. It goes well under the SPF 30 Mineral Sheer Moisturizer (which is divine on the face with ample coverage without feeling oily) or even alone. I highly recommend this one for a rejuvenating treat.

Green Apple Mousse Body Cleanser

Leaves my skin feeling renewed with a hint of a tingle head to toe. I actually anticipate the fruity scented foam's glycerin properties to keep me cleansed beyond compare. It does not go on harsh nor does it dry out my skin. It's a keeper.

Green Apple Hydration Mask

Is greatly appreciated. It's alpha lipoic acid, lemon juice and Vitamin C packs a powerful pull of impurities from my body that left me feeling even more upbeat than I normally am. I use it 3 times a week generously on my neck, back and chest for 10 minutes. I can see why the oils of rosehip, primrose and manderin are considered essential oils that work wonders. After wards, you may actually feel yourself rinsing off the day of stress with this one.

Cleansing Milk

Removes even the slightest make up from the smallest areas in a soothing manner still. I washed my face with it day and evening only to be lead to a scent that is indescribably nice. With a cleanser born of raspberry, white grapes and aloe vera, how can it be anything else except yummy to the touch? My finger tips and the tip of my cheeks thank you for this one.

Angela (NY):
I love beauty products that do these things because I tend to break out sometimes and my skin is somewhat on the dry side. My nose is the only part of my face that gets oily. I am a vegetarian and organic anything is right up my alley. I didn't eat any fruits while trying this products but I love grapes. The Cleansing Milk and SPF 30 Mineral Sheer Moisturizer made me feel wonderful! The Cleansing Milk had a nice soft scent and it didn't dry my skin out at all. It made me feel so refreshed. The moisturizer was great as it left my skin looking clear and bright. I never had a moisturizer that made my skin glow like that and it didn't leave my skin greasy. It controlled the shine my nose always has, so I didn't have to pat my nose down with tissue like 20 times a day. It would get extremely oily and shiny...Ughhh!!I used the SPF 30 Mineral Sheer Moisturizer twice a day for a week. During the day I am a substitute teacher at an elementary school and I am the owner of a multi-faceted creative services agency that provides image consulting, fashion styling and event planning services. We represent celebrity wardrobe stylists and I am constantly looking for job opportunities for them, sending in portfolios, making phone calls, etc. I teamed up with a casting agency based in Atlanta and have been casting music videos as well. Business has me constantly updating my database. I haven't heard of JUICE BEAUTY before there's a product worth spreading the word about as I am truly impressed with how it made my skin feel. I was happy that I won. I would most definitely add this to my beauty regimen! Ladies go and get the Cleansing Milk and SPF 30 Mineral Sheer Moisturizer . You will not be disappointed!!

Stephanie (TX):
This was so much fun and right on time! My skin is normally dry. After using the Green Apple Peel (Sensitive) Treatment in the evenings once a a week, my skin felt smooth & fresh. I didn't use any other cleanser while I was trying it. It's important for me to keep my skin moisturized too... I do love when I find a great product that does the job well! Now my main duties consist of taking care of my daughter. I'm pregnant with my second child too so I crave apples and strawberries almost everyday. I haven't heard of Juice Beauty before but would I add this to my "must haves" ? Absolutely!!! Thank you for letting me be apart of this experience!

Choclatt (NJ):
HEY Giirl! Oh yes! I won! I I used both products every morning. I eat fruit everyday but these weeks I think I had apples, oranges and grapes. The SPF 8 Lip Moisturizer, Naturally Clear, was nice, made my lips very soft and has a nice fragrance. I like that it felt like it was barely there, very kissable... I wore it alone. The Green Apple Moisturizer was "the bomb" in the morning, nice and light and I love the apple scent! Because my skin is oily I'm shiny by the afternoon. I have very oily skin, I "dab" a little on the dry areas and I'm good. I have seen the products before, cant remember where though. I'm a sales consultant by day which is pretty exhausting so I wind down when I get home with some good gospel and a warm bath. I have two young children so there's homework, dinner, bath time, story time and then my beauty rest. I would absolutely add both items that I won to my list of goodies after bath time! But because of my "natural shine" I would definitely save the Green Apple Moisturizer for colder days when my skin tends to get a little dry. I'm headed to sephora to get more from the line. My daughter wants all the Green Apple gems! And what else you need a sister to try out? A fly pair of shoes or sumthin' :)

Annabelle (NY):
Hi. I always look for something new and fitting for my skin. Especially in the winter time I look for "ideal moisturizers". The SPF 8 Lip Moisturizer, Playful does a very good job and I love the smell of it! My face is very sensitive so I was glad to have won the body cream. It too was very good. My skin is really dry so I like something nourishing. The Green Apple SPF 20 Antioxidant Body Moisturizer cream was used once a day but the lip moisturizer-I used 3-4 times a day and will keep it in regular use. I love organic. I eat apples all the time. Sometimes I'm working on set, going to art gallery openings, screening films or going to meetings pertaining to story board changes. I love beauty products but I'm so busy, I like to use stuff that works and keeps me going. Thank you so much for choosing me.

Shakera (SC):
During my lunch break, I was check my email and read that I had won. I was really excited! It was a tedious morning and I was assessing my students. I needed that uplifting message and it actually made me smile. I'm not a frequent user of beauty products but I am definitely a fan of ones that can keep my skin smooth. I love fruits and organic ones at best. Apples and Oranges and Pears, OH MY! lol The SPF 8 Lip Moisturizer-Natural Flavor actually made me comfortable. I use it at least four times a day. Naturally Clear feels great and keeps my lips smooth!

The Green Apple Hydration Mask was a cooling and relaxing sensation. I actually was excited about using this product for my face. My skin is dry, all of the time. I used the mask every 2 evenings. I am a Kindergarten Teacher at a Charter School and the Teacher Representative of the Parent Teacher Organization with extended school days. I come home , cook dinner and lately I do my ten minute mask to clean off the day. After some light relaxing, a little school work, the nightly news, and preparing for the next day, I curl up next to my man-- THE PILLOW! lol I never heard of Juice Beauty Organics and even though I'm not an avid user of beauty products, this one really stuck with me. The two products I won are great for me. Thanks F.Y.F. I was more confident about wearing lip balm and showing off my full lips. I absolutely loove my lips--just never knew there would be a lip balm for me. Smoothness and nice scent. I definitely encourage all my sisters to look forward to the possibility of getting your name "picked out of the hat" and having that beauty engulfed on you. :)

*****Deirdre's Wedding Word Of The Month****

I have TWO words this month. #1-TREASURE- What do you treasure? Family?-Do you tell them? Do you treasure your life/health? Take care of yourself? Breathe... I did. Right now the true treasure is our union under God and how we will grow together as husband and wife to do His will.
"Matthew6: 21For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

#2-EXPECTATION- I am in a true state of expectation and anticipation...good things are flowing and I am excited...Blessings are truly pouring out and I just pray for the focus and wisdom when they come....however, I still expect more!!! The Vegas trip was amazing and my work presentation was great there. We're back, busy and grateful. I have my dress! The invitations were designed by my honey and we love them! This chocolate and pink theme is very us. Chocolate is a strong color and the pink represents the softer side/the bride the romantic part of the union.

By the way...we are going to be on.......'Whose Wedding is it Anyway' on the Style Network!!! I am a huge fan of the show and watch it A LOT- It is a show on the Style Network that pairs a wedding planner with a couple and they follow and watch as the personalities mesh and see how the planner and the couple pull off the wedding.... months ago I went online to see if they were accepting applications to be on the show. They were asking for people that were getting married this fall. Our is winter but I sent in our information anyway. We are truly blessed and are waiting to see what else God has in store. January 2009 is really almost here! For everyone sending up prayers and have become blessings in our life, thank you.

Let's hope the bride can drop a few pounds before the wedding-you know the camera adds 10 lbs LOL!!!
