The 'DO IT" Factor

HAPPY APRIL Ladies and Gentlemen! Are you feeling good? Are you doing better? I'm sure you are because you made it to this day and this day belongs to the determined! Determined to think before we speak. Speak only when necessary on something we've learned, as needing our words attached to it. And to DO, once the event call upon us to take action. I am very grateful for the Frequent Tryers return to get inspiring concepts, healthy recipes and reviews of products that sooth the spirit. I appreciate the new readers for the same reason:) You all are welcome here. Let's support the ideas that each of us are able to fulfill our daily goals without hindering another persons goals on purpose. Let's go forth in only the thoughts of goodness towards our own next step. Let's take our own next step and keep stepping. Plan to be great-you already are. Plan to be available to happiness-yours has your name on it. Plan it move, be, act-DO!! We are all capable of turning up our "DO IT" factor to levels beyond what we've ever experienced before. The struggles of the mind do not have to pull down our spirits at every angle everyday. Turn down the nay-sayers and thoughts of pause, towards an actions that may very well be life changing. Life is changing anyway. Might as well be in a way that you had a hand in nudging the change (along with the higher power of your choice).
Wonderful weather days are ahead I believe. Soak up the sun, open a business that warms your heart, read a book that enlightens your life's concepts, eat foods that lead to a great tasting experience, dance to your own destiny's beat, go on a vacation for your soul. Just do it! What ever it is. You will be glad you did and smile about it later.
That is how you have fun, have faith and Fix Ya Face:)

A Beautiful Mind welcomes

LOLA DAVIS (NY)

I am a Brooklyn native born and raised, but I have traveled to many states LA, Vegas, Chicago, The Carolina's, MD, DC, VA and many other places . I've been a few places in my short 18 yrs. of life so far. lol

1.
If there's a song that reflects your vibe, what would that song be? Do you meditate, pray or/and take time to mentally relax? If so, what part of the day? For how long?

If there is a song that reflects my vibe right now it would be my song titled "Takin Over The World". This song helps me stay focused and on top of my game! The message I am trying to deliver in the song really impacts what it is I am trying to do with my life. Figuratively speaking I am "Takin Over The World". which means anything in life is possible I can have it all so to go for it! This song is a constant reminder for me.

I pray multiples times a day and give God thanks for my blessings. I have conversations with him about everything. I find a comfort and calmness in doing so.

2. What early part of your life's journey opened up your desire to be a singer?
I've always wanted to sing. I grew up around music, my mom being one of the main influences. She was in various singing groups as I grew up, so watching her I could not help but to catch the bug. I started off dancing. I danced in National Competitions, dance recitals, as well as with other recording artist. I choreographed and stage shows for Def Jam artist Unique and Karina Pasian. Being around them for part of their journey's and closely working with them kept me focused on my goal to actually sing. It inspired me to go for it. They were definitely a part of what kept the desire to sing there for me. It was like a reassurance that I too can do exactly what it is they were doing

3. What new result (s) and/or positive occurrences are you most proud of so far from this?
I would say I'm happy that I have been able to grow as a person as well as an artist and not become jaded personally by certain experiences, which is a really difficult thing to do sometimes. I'm trying my best to focus and to remain true to what I believe in. I've been doing many shows that have Q&A' S after the performance and it has allowed me to deliver a message to people mostly kids. I try to let them know... like I was told anything is possible and that they can do whatever it is in life they want to do. So when those kids or people tell me that I inspired them it really makes my day. I feel like I have done my job.

4. With some of your successful experiences
allowing you to connect with other purposeful people
, what are some of your day to day activities during the school year?
My day to day activities consist of many things it really depends on the day. I'll have breakfast with my mom in the morning, catch up on emails text messages and phone calls. We then go over the schedule for the day which could consist of interviews, rehearsal, vocal class, gym, writing and creating music... to just spending time with family and friends. my days can go either way, but I make sure to always have some form of singing and dancing a part of it. I document most of it on Twitter.com/loladavis follow me... lol I like to keep in touch with my twitter fam! I'm also on youtube.com/iamloladavis check me out... :)

5. What do you do for fun? What new fun thing would you like to try?

I love to hang out with my family and friends. We got out to eat because I love food... Eating is like the greatest thing ever! lol. I like to go to Dave and Busters, shopping, movies, bowling, amusement parks or even just chill out in the house. Something new I would love to try is sky diving, well not the real thing the simulated version. I'm not sure what It's called, but I know there is some kind of training place that preps you for the real deal. There's like a huge fan to help create the feeling of sky diving. I think that would be so cool I like adventures.

6. One thing on my Life List is.. that
I'm still working on many things such as my career and a place in this music industry, however I eventually want to get into some more community work. Something on a bigger scale then what I have done thus far. I want to start an organization for children, something like a Boys and Girls Club. I want to be a major part of helping to keep Music and the Arts in schools. I hope to inspire people and hope people look at me and others... as someone who is just like them.

7. What/Who keeps your grounded in this ever changing world?
I would have to say my family and faith in God keeps me grounded. They are always there when I need them and even when I think I don't need their help lol. They help me remember what is important in life and that no matter what happens I am loved and they are proud of me. They keep me going... besides they would crack my head open if I even seemed like I was going to lose my way lol just joking. They wouldn't crack my head open, but they would be the first to help me back up!
8. What are 2 qualities that you prefer and respect about your mate at this point in your life?

My mate? No there is no mate here (lol) I have time for that.

9. Who gave you 1 really good piece of advice early on and what was it?

So many people have given me advice in my life I have been fortunate to be surrounded by amazing people. I would have to say my mom and my grandparents. They always have made It clear that I can do anything I want in life from day one. That they would be behind me every step of the way. Their advice was to stay focused, driven and to strive for what my heart desires. My mom always says never let anyone tell me no. I've always kept that message with me. That message is
what I consider to be my life motto "Don't Chase Your Dreams Out Run Them".

10. What piece of business advice would you like to share?
I would say make smart choices... everything to come after depends on the choices you make . Your choice not only effects you but they effect everyone around you. That's for life and for business.

11. What is NEXT for you in 2010 and beyond?
This year I will continue to work hard on my music and I'm hoping to release my single "Takin Over The World" This year! Nothing but hard work and dedication. I'm going to keep going for all my goals!

12.
Choose 1: Yoga, Cardio OR Free Weights?

A Beautiful Mind welcomes

TAMERA PHILLIPS (NY/SC)

I am a native New Yorker born and raised were I currently reside. I have also lived in the state of South Carolina in the hometown of my mother where I participated in any activity they would let me. Basketball, volley ball, track, soft ball, soccer, cheer leading. I would have played school football with the boys... if they would have let me lol. I was also on the school chorus, the church choir all of which required me to travel from state to state.

1.
If there's a song that reflects your vibe, what would that song be? Do you meditate, pray or/and take time to mentally relax? If so, what part of the day? For how long?

I would have to choose two songs that embody my spirit right now. "Golden" by Jill Scott and "It's the God in me" by Mary Mary because with God all things are possible... I am merely a reflection of his spirit so I have to live my life in such a manor. I have to live it like it's Golden! He is my suit of armor and in this business just with life in general you have to be armored up! lol. I believe wholeheartedly in the power of prayer so I pray often throughout the day. I also believe in taking quiet time in a quiet place some time during the day so yes meditation works for me as well. Anytime is a great time to pray or meditate, for as long as I need. I usually do both as soon as I crack my eyes open and definitely every night before I go to sleep.

2. Tell us about the company, ONLY CHILD MANAGEMENT.

Only Child Management was started out of basic necessity. I came up with the name of the company in "2005" and held on to it until "2009" as I realized I would probably need it. Lola Davis the artist I manage is not only my client, but my daughter. When she decided that she had to be an entertainer... I have to say I was some what reluctant for her to "chase the dream", although she has a motto she lives by concerning "the dream", nonetheless having being in the business myself I know how crazy things can get! The good, the bad, the ugly and everything in between. Naturally and instinctively I wanted to protect her like any parent would, but there was just no denying her super talent or her dream so I started Only Child Management to build a solid and strong foundation around her career and to continue grooming her as I have her entire life. I also recruited a Co-Manager, who I've known for years and worked with in the business Monique Crayton, collectively we are Only Child Management.

3. What new result (s) and/or positive occurrences are you most proud of so far from this?

I'm most proud of Lola's consistency and growth, not only as an artist but as a person. The fact that she realizes that entertaining is a real platform for a voice she want's to find a way to utilize it in the best way possible to actually inspire and make a difference in many ways other then just doing her music. I am also most proud of my tenacity.... to learn quickly they are not playing in this business! lol

4.What early part of your life's journey prompted you to go forth in building this necessary outlet?

Music has always been a part of my life. It's in my blood as a former singer, song writer, dancer and choreographer myself and sometimes acting manager due to default... lol of various groups I belonged to in the past it seems only fitting to take everything that I have experienced and learned and continue the journey by representing and having my daughter/artist best interest truly at heart!

5. With some of your successful experiences allowing you to connect with other purposeful people, what are some of your day to day activities ?

This business really is about relationships and networking so I communicate with peers throughout the day via phone, email, meetings etc. My partner and I have delegated responsibilities as well as shared for Lola. I create and follow up on opportunities for Lola, handle scheduling regarding studio, rehearsals, performances, appearances, physical training. I maintain her website, promote, market... the list goes on and on, there never seems to be enough hours in a day! lol

6. What do you do for fun? What new fun thing would you like to try?

I love love love spending time with my family and friends. We love to get together for all kinds of activities, we all gather at a family members house and just eat, play games, take loads of pictures and during the holidays exchange gifts great gifts. We always have a great time! Haha I'm adventurous there are a lot of things I would like to try. In fact I intend to make a bucket list (things I would like to do before I die) lol, but for now I haven't surfed yet I would like to try that. I would also like to run the NYC marathon with my father and a bit of a ambitious thing is I've been thinking about sky diving, we'll see on that one. :)

7. One thing on my Life List is... that I would like to start or be a part of a foundation that will make a real difference. Perhaps something to do with Alzheimer's my Grandma who was and still is very near and dear to my heart suffered and passed away as a result of this horrible disease. Also I would like do something with children... I love children.

8. What/Who keeps your grounded in this ever changing world?

I come from a humble background so it is embedded in me, it's the only way I know how to be. My faith in the Lord and my family will always keep me in check!

9. What are 2 qualities that you prefer and respect about your mate at this point in your life?

I am currently single and happy might I add... :) but would have to say that if I had a mate at this point in my life qualities I would prefer and respect would be time and trust. A woman needs her mate to have and spend quality time and you just simply cannot have a relationship without trust especially trust in the lord.

10. Who gave you 1 really good piece of advice early on and what was it?

My mom, she has taught many great lessons, but one very very early on was to always do my very best at whatever it is I do. That way I have no regrets and that has always stuck with me since a very little girl.

11. What piece of business advice would you like to share?

Gain as much knowledge as possible about your craft; your line of business and try to never burn bridges.

12. What is NEXT for you in 2010 and beyond?

To Brand Lola Davis and to take a line from her to "Take Over The World"! :)

13. Choose 1: Low Heel, High Heel OR No Heel? High heel!
Choose 1: Novel, Biographies, Inspirational Book OR Blog? Inspirational Book

Choose 1: Fresh Fruit, Fruit Smoothie OR Fresh Fruit Juiced? Fresh Fruit

14. What word would best describe YOU right now? Relentless!

-I think FYF is very necessary and refreshing. Promoting beauty from the inside out... I love it! I feel the energy jumping right of the blogazine pages... Thank you FYF!
